Last weekend, I took the kids to Discovery Museum to check out its new exhibits. I love this museum because it's small enough that I can bring the kids by myself and not worry about anyone getting lost, but large enough to offer the kids a few hours of exploring. The boys especially loved the new Space exhibit and the log cabin in the new Trees exhibit. It was a fun Saturday morning outing!

That same weekend, we all headed out to the California State Fair. We met up with the Farleys (which has become an annual tradition for us and them) and had a blast eating corndogs and funnel cakes, watching Jonah and Garrett go on rides, seeing the farm animals, watching the Tractor Pull, and ensuring that all the boys got plenty of overstimulation. Gotta love the Fair.

Then, on a recent Tuesday (day off for me), I took the boys to the Train Museum. We've been there dozens of times but they love it each and every time. Do they have any idea how lucky they are...living just 5 minutes from the California State Railroad Museum? It's like a little boy's paradise.

And today (Labor Day), we headed over to "Gold Rush Days" in Old Sacramento. We had so much fun! Of course, Old Sacramento always makes you feel like you've been in a time machine, but for this event, they covered the streets with dirt (so you couldn't see the pavement) and had people dressed in costume all over the place, so it really felt like we were whisked away to a different time period. We panned for gold, painted Tom Sawyer's fence, tasted old fashioned sasparilla, heard lots of banjo, watched a drama with a gun fight (Jonah was NOT a fan), and took a steam train ride (the highlight of the day).
